8-26-10 @ 6:29pm
Hello Journal
Well last time I wrote Katie and Leah had been feeling a little under the weather (vomiting frequently). This was on Wed (8-25-10) morning. We were up around 5:00am due to the jet lag and their sickness. Leah felt better by about 10:00am but Katie continued to feel sick for most of the day, although the worst was over by 10:00am.

(sorry for the rated R photo, It illustrates how Katie was feeling at the time. Hahahah and I may have been annoying her.)
(I was also pretty tired and took a lengthy nap during the day.)
Because everyone was moving slowly, Wed turned out to be a pretty lazy day. I made several trips to the grocery store, for lunch and dinner, but for the most part we stayed in the hotel room. That night, we went to sleep at around 9:00pm after watching the Disney channel for a couple hours (Hannah Montana was in English). I woke up at 2:00am and couldn’t get back to sleep so I stayed up and read “the girl with the dragon tattoo” for several hours. Then managed to fall back to sleep and didn’t wake up until 11:30am.
After we got going this morning we had a pretty eventful day. We used a map we picked up at “Useit” and… used it… to find different sites around the city. We were starving when we left our room and passed by all the good food places on our way out of the touristy areas. We then struggled to find a place to have breakfast/lunch for almost an hour. Finally we settled for some sandwich place, I ordered a really odd proscutto, cheese, lettuce, and carrot sandwich. Then we went to a big park across from the royal palace.
In the park there was a music festival going on. We stood around and listened for a while, and eventually left the crowd and made our way through the park to the royal palace.
The guards did not allow us to bring our cameras into the palace, due to the amount of artwork and other items of historical value. This was too bad because there was some great stuff inside. The most noteworthy piece or art was a ceiling and chandelier covered completely with of the shells of green Thai beetles… IT WAS AWESOME. After we left the palace the weather had cleared up substantially.
We walked down the road and saw the palace of justice, the glass elevator, and the African part of town, and the oldest part or Brussels.

(the palace of Justice)
Then we got Belgian waffles! Finally! We were trying to find them earlier in the day but we had to settle for bad sandwiches.

After a long day of walking around the city we made it back to our hotel room at about 5:30.
Interesting notes
- Our hotel room looks out into a covered mall.

- The store directly below our window plays American pop and euro techno music constantly
- Our thermostat is broken so we need to leave the window open (inviting the loud music in).
- The temperature in our room right now is 78 degrees Fahrenheit. This is warm, and we are complaining about it now… but in India it will be about 25 degrees warmer and WAY more humid. We are excited!
- Katie’s raincoat is not waterproof… at all.
